Post and Rail Fencing

The traditional hand-crafted cleft chestnut post and rail fencing, sometimes referred to as ‘Sussex rail’, is the most attractive and appropriate fence for garden, paddock and parkland use.

Traditional chestnut post and rail fencing makes a very strong and elegant fence, which is capable of lasting 40 years or more.

Torry Hill chestnut post and rail fencing

The 2.9m long rails are cleft from 20-30 year old straight chestnut wood, using wedges to give an attractive natural finish and can be supplied with the bark on or off. Rails have carefully tapered ends, which fit into substantial 2 metre cleft half round chestnut posts mortised to take either two or three rails per bay. Corner, angle and end fencing posts are also available.
